The Sumatran Ranger Project employs a team of 11 rangers (8 men and 3 women) who patrol the forest edge of the Leuser Ecosystem in North Sumatra on a full time basis. Every month the team patrols on foot through 25 forest edge communities, forest border, and community land; deactivating and removing snares, providing community outreach and education, monitoring wildlife and illegal activity, responding to and helping mitigate human-wildlife conflict, and collecting data. The team have removed over 600 snares to date, the only team patrolling this area of the Leuser Ecosystem in North Sumatra.
